General Notes:
"Mother was born August 13, 1821 in Drelsdorf, two miles from Bredstedt. S he was from the Friesen Islands and always talked Friesen to her own peopl e, but german to us. Until 1864 we were Danish but the Danish Government d id not allow us to kee p our German language but taught Danish in the schoo ls, so the Preussian Government helped us obtain our freedom from Denma rk and annexed us to Germany about the time I was born, This was the ti me of Bismark. I had a very happy childhood, the y oungest of the family. On We dnesday and Saturday afternoons when we had no school, I went to a handicr aft school and learned to knit, embordery and etc. I had two brothers, Curley haired Christian, who inherited the Ta nnery and Shoe Factory, a nd Martin who was a teacher in Hamburg." Margaretha Christiansen Horn Biography 1942 * * * * ********************************************************************** ***** March 2003. I was researching in Family History Library in Salt Lake Ci ty w ith help of a German reseacher. We found the marriage of Carsten Chris tiansen and Ingeburg or Ingeborg Petersen. Aunt Ruth had the last name f or Ingeborg as Peters but there in the Drelsdorf Church record it has h er with her parents and the ful l name was Ingeburg Petersen. Her birth w as correct with what I had but Carstens' was off a few years. I wonder w ho first initiated stating his birth date. I seems that a church record wo uld be more correct than hand me down dates. Notice tha t Carsten and Ingeburg's 2nd child was named Peter, probably aft er father; and their first girl was named after her Mother, Margaretha Han sen Petersen. Mar 2003 JHR
