It is thought that he sold this property and invested the proceeds in a vessel i n which he emigrated to Dorchester, Mass. in 1635. He arrived in Wethersfield before Sep 1636. He made voyages with this vessel up and down the Connecticut River, trading with the Indians. It is surmised to have been his vessel which was employe d to carry Capt. John Mason's little army of soldiers in the Pequot War of 1637 around to Narragansett Bay to the point of their attack upon the Indians, and that he took part in that engagement and received a grant of land. He was from the firs t a shipbuilder in Wethersfield.
John Plumb's name appears often on the town's records and as juror. He was representative to the General Court in 1637, 1641-43 and collector of customs in 1644. He sold his property in 1644 consisting of "13 parcels from 2 acres up to 204, an d 2 dwelling houses" and removed to Branford, where in Dec 1645, at the first town meeting of that settlement, he was chosen to keep the Town's books, which office he held until his death in July 1648, at age 54. His will was probated 01 Aug 1648.
He and his wife Dorothy had 9 children, all born in England, except for the youngest, Dorcas , who was born in Wethersfield and married John Lyman.
John married Dorothy Wood in 1616 in Ridgewell, Essex, England. (Dorothy Wood was born in 1596 in Takeley Grange, Hertfordshire, England and died in 1669 in Branford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.)
